Hair Fair 2013

Preparations for Hair Fair 2013 have already begun. We have spent the past week receiving applications from last years participants, and are now opening the application process for any new and existing hair stores interested in participating this year. The event is a charity event, and all stores will be donating 15% of all hair-packs sold to Wigs for Kids, so if you know anyone that sells hair, let them know so they can sign up to be part of the 8th Annual Hair Fair. Rules and application information available HERE. If you need any help with the application process, please contact Sasy Scarborough in world via notecard. Applications must be in by March 31st.

Frou Frou – Hair Fair 2012

Frou Frou Hair Fair 2012 a

Frou Frou released 5 hair styles at Hair Fair 2012.  Four updos are great for runway, editorial, and formal dress and an angled bob with a ribboned rolled hair piece.   Frou Frou also has a gift hairband, that is the ribbon and rolls element that is on three of the styles, to mix in with your hair.

Frou Frou Hair Fair 2012 b

I’m wearing portions of an outfit called Tremolo Staff from Bare Rose.  Not shown are the shoes, leg ribbons, shoes, and hair bow.  The skirt is kinda genius, the top two layers are sculpted so it holds it’s form, the bottom ruffles are flexi prims with glow, it’s a great effect. This outfit also includes a white version with purchase.  Tremolo Staff is a musical term and there are several other complimentary outfits with similar names in that theme, like Staccato, etc.  My boots are mesh and from LeLutka, with rivet, lace, and heel color options via hud.  My stockings are from !gO!, the pack included brown, and beige as well for a great price. They have really nice texturing, and feature prim bows around the top.

MINA – Hair Fair 2012

MINA Hair Fair 2012 Anouk Lente

MINA released 3 hairstyles at Hair Fair 2012. MINA hair comes with hair shade hud with resizer.  Daan a unisex short hair style that also comes with an additional hud for highlights. My larger photo shows the hair in a solid shade, and two highlight variations. Anouk is a loose long hair, that has a bit of a wave to it. I really liked how nice and full it was.  Lente is a pulled back soft pony tail with tendrils on the side of the face.  I love this shade I went with, technically its in the Brown range but its got a bit of red to it, all around a great shade.  MINA has a gift hair at Hair Fair 2012, it’s Blanche a sassy angled bob, in a very light blonde.  It’s easily tint-able, for those who like to tint, I was able to replicate one of my favorite shades of reddish brown easily.

MINA Hair Fair 2012 Blanche Gift

I’m wearing a polka dot mesh halter top from Ribbon I picked up at the Okinawa Summer Festival, its available in a variety of prints from a damask to leopard. I liked the denim shade to it, and went casual wearing a mini mini skirt from Nyte’N'Day, and denim Pilar Wedges from YS&YS.

Hair Fair 2012 – SLink

SLink Hair Fair 2012

SLink released 3 lovely mesh styles at Hair Fair 2012.  A gorgeous soft french twist, a lovely soft braid called Mica, and this short style called Nicolette.  Nicolette is angled nicely, and I how short is is on the side. The french twist is soft, draping to the side of the face.  Mica is a cute braid, with whisps here and there, and loose tendrils that have escaped here and there.  These three styles are currently available only at Hair Fair 2012 until July 29th, after that they will be available at SLink’s main store.

SLink Hair Fair 2012 Composite

Erratic just released a mesh leather dress that’s hot, well textured, and available in a variety of colors.  I liked the form, the collar, and the thick look to the leather. I’ve paired them with Maitreya‘s mesh couture leggings in oil-disco, and accessorized with some favorites from Mandala.  I’m wearing new mesh eyes from Izzie’s called Deep Dark Eyes.  As you can guess they feature of deep tones and I like how deep even the teal shade I am wearing is.  They’re easy to wear, barely any adjusting, I only made my iris’ a bit smaller I went with 1.20 on the horizontal and diagonal as a personal preference, even 1.1 would have been perfectly fine. They also come with a layer version.

Hair Fair 2012 – Clawtooth

Clawtooth Seredipity Hair Fair 2012

Bubbles Clawtooth released four long hair styles at Hair Fair 2012.  I’ve been so busy for such a long time, I haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy some Clawtooth hair even though Bubbles is very active in releasing hairs. Shame on me, cause I love Clawtooth, and apparently I have really been missing out.  So while I help organize and build Hair Fair, depriving myself in the process of hair, it makes it all worth it’s still exciting for me.  The release included 2 long loose hairstyles, one featuring a lovely victory type curl/swoop, and 2 braids that were whispy about the face.

Hair Fair 2012 – Demo Group

Hair Fair 2012 – Demo Group

Hair Fair Demo Group

The Hair Fair Demo Group has always not only been a great way to see all the hair releases early – Hair Fair Demos are sent the day before Hair Fair starts – but also a fun way to try on styles from creators that may be new to you, with friends and family at home.

Not only can you compile a shopping list ahead of time, and be prepared to just shop at the event, it will also help with not having to rez each style in a busy environment, store to store.

Have a party, get your friends to vote on styles you love, play dress ups with your besties and convince your partners that trying on girl or boy hair is fun behind closed doors – don’t forget to make your snapshot silent while you take pics of them.

This event is a huge Charity Event for Wigs for Kids, and we want it to be as fun as possible for you, and we love hearing all the excitement leading up to the event, and Demos are a great way to do that. You will find a clickable board HERE  or you can copy paste secondlife:///app/group/2e30d166-f3e5-e2de-ff72-b3da2d06ded2/about  in chat and open your chat history to click the underlined link to join that way.

All hair sold at hair fair 2012 will be donating a percentage to Wigs for Kids, the charity of choice for Hair Fair. If you want to know more about Wigs for Kids you can visit their website, or watch this short film of its founder and how Wigs for Kids is now a legacy to a loved on.

Hair Fair 2011 – Shagtastic

4th of July Bombshell
I put this outfit together a while ago, but recently updated it with Sway’s beach bag.  I’m wearing skin and eye gifts available from Ploom and Digital Eyes at Hair Fair.  Shag has released two women’s styles at Hair Fair 2011, this one is Bombshell, which I love! It’s a great layered angled bob. Super tousled, good structure.  I’m also wearing a release from the beginning of summer from DeLa, a cute open cardigan, with color change buttons, over a great one piece dress from E! in navy.  These shoes from Slink are a dream to tint, and fun to wear.  While at the fair I noticed this jewelry set in an ad for hair at SugarsmacK, and rushed right over to get it at Indy&Co.   It’s available in a variety of colors, and features the necklace and earrings to match.

Shag Ingenue
This dress was a surprise to find at Nylon Outfitters, I totally didn’t expect to find it, as I usually associate them with more casual wear.  It’s cute, and totally ready for a party, which I thought was perfect with Shag’s other women’s hair from Hair Fair. I feel somewhere in between Holly Golightly and Romy and Michel.  I love the height of it, and that it stills is long.

Tempest

Tempest

I have been slowly accessorizing and playing with different tops for this outfit for weeks, trying out different boots, hair, tops.  I finally settled on J’s latest release of their Cowgirl Boots2.  I love these boots in this red, but I snagged the fat pack.  These are classics!  The fringe is flexi, and has great movement.  I’m wearing the latest from Tres Blah, this lovely peasant top, with embroidery.  If you like it it’s also available as a dress at the store.  By chance I was already planning this outfit with Tres Blah’s denim cut offs, which are layer only, and I like that about this style.  My skin is by Felicity Blumenthal, made specially for Another Fundraiser II called Ginger Skin.  Only $50L with 100% proceeds going to Red Cross (for Japan).  My purse is from Addict and also benefits Japan, with proceeds going to no kill animal shelters in Japan.  The Fur Japan event started last night, and is jam-packed with items!  I picked up three great houses there. My hair, Tempest, is from Exile, and I am in love with the length, and soft flex.  My jewelry is from Mood, called Bandara, in silver with turquoise which match my turquoise eyes from Amacci.

I discovered these post processing effects in the Singularity viewer, and was curious to see the effect inworld.  Sometimes you just want to cut the post processing time down, or take snapshot.  This is a great, and I hope they further develop it.  I would like to see the Gaussian Blur effect lightened, and think it would be great to incorporate shadow/highlighted borders too. To access them 1. log into Singularity, 2. on your top tool bar World – Environment Settings – Post Process Effects.  I have made photos demonstrating each of the effects.  Color Filter let you play further with Gamma, and Brightness. I loved being able to change the Saturation while retaining any windlight settings I have on.  Contrast is really nice addition as well.  The Gaussian Blur is great in thought but the effect even at level 1 on the slider is too strong for portraits.  Night vision is way cool!  I like that you can also create an effect, and save it.  It’s really easy to use. To see the effects, click the Enable box, play with the sliders.  The tabs stack so if you want one more than one tabs setting, leave enable on. Check out the photos.

Another Fundraiser II – Skins & Makeup

Another Fundraiser II

Another Fundraiser II is almost ready to open….for those wishing to still participate by making skins/makeup/tats, give us a shout, we can add you to group super fast.  For those who aren’t sure what Another Fundraiser II is about, we are asking residents to make skins mods, makeups etc either based on Eloh, MinaJunk, etc you name it, or work on your own if you happen to make skins.  Point is make skins, or makeups, all proceeds go to Red Cross for Japan. More details here.  I remember Another Fundraiser in 2008, how amazing it was to see people who hadn’t created before make things.  I’ve been enjoying checking out the skins and makeups that have been set up to date.   For more information on Another Fundraiser II click here.

Sneak Peek….

Sneak Peek - Another Fundraiser II

Teleport

Another Fundraiser II

Three years ago, Eloh Eliot of Another Shop caused a grid wise stir when she released full perm skins.  Her reasoning was simple…to see what would happen.  Lots happened!  Out of her generosity, many people had access to layered psd’s.  Psd is a file extension name for Photoshop, meaning there is more than one item inside the file, on a layer.  These layers were lashes, eye-makeup, lips, shading, highlighting, all the elements that come together to create a skin.  For many people this was the first time they were able to see the process.  It was an informative tool, as well as resource.

Seizing this opportunity, and hoping to cement the foundations for proper use of this gift, Another Fundraiser was born.  Second Life residents were encouraged to create modded/modified skins.  The response was overwhelming.  In just a few short day, there were tons of skins already set out awaiting the opening. Residents were consuming tutorials as fast as they could to participate.  Everyone contributed to their skill level at the time, and everyone learned something.  Over the years, people who attempted to make some new makeups for this event, have gone on to show their skills with more makeup, more heavily modded skins, and eventually a fully developed skin with no traces of the old Eloh they started out with. A fresh new skin, fully their own.  Eloh Eliot’s risk, paid off in many people ‘leveling up’.

It was  three years ago to the day, of the posting of the charity receipts for Another Fundraiser, that Mina Jun of MinaJunk offered her full perm skins to the grid for modification, to benefit Red Cross.   The grid has changed a lot in 3 years.  We now have tatoo layers, allowing avatars to swap out tattoos, and makeups.  Another Fundraiser II is back to help victims of the March 11th 2011 Earthquake, and Tsunami by asking residents to try their hand again at modding skins.

Please read for information about Another Fundraiser II.

A collection of various tutorials that might answer some questions about working in Photoshop/gimp with layered files.  You can do this, it’s easy, just play around, emulate some tutorials, and see what happens….trust me anything you do will be better than my old Another Fundraiser skin mods. ;P   Using Mina Jun’s skins, Eloh Eliot’s layers, and Sezmra Svarog’s template, I am sure you can put together something someone will like.  Give it a try!

A Busy Week

Riddle Secret Linden

The grid has been a nightmare for me recently, textures take forever to rez, worn prims disappear, then when everything is just right and I try to take a photo, the prims go grey again.  Way too frustrating!

I finally was able to get some blogging done, this outfit comprises some new releases, some event clothing, and a charity item.  March 5 to March 26, Juicybomb is hosting Pure Juice, which features a number of designers.  I’m wearing from that event, The Secret Store’s Juicy Top, in Hot Pink.  It’s also available in Carmine, and French Pink.  Featuring a prim top, with cute black bow empire waist.  Also featured at Pure Juice is Riddle, who made these awesome leather pants, shown here in black, they are also available in brown. I love the texture of them, and they feature prim pant legs.  This is just a tiny sampling of what’s there, click here for a teleport to PureJuice.

My hair and necklace are recent releases from Maitreya, and Mood.  Lotte is a relaxed pony tail with color change ponytail band.  Mood’s Chrysalis necklace and earrings, come with a hud that lets you change the metal from the shade shown here to darker tones. Je Suis has had a sale going on, you might still be able to stop by and binge on jewelry.  I picked out my Magnifique bracelet, I bought the fatpack, which has a set of bangles, and each bangle, or all, can be color changed via hud.  Two stacks are included, preset to be worn on either wrist.

My bear is the Relief L$1000 – Teddy Bear, all proceeds from the sale of this bear go to the ‘Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami Relief efforts of the American Red Cross’.  Click here to view the 2 styles of bear, one sitting, one wearable, available in various prices. For other ways to give inworld, check out the Pacific Crisis Fundraiser which starts March 16th, and Radar magazines Japan Relief Fund Event.

Second LifeCall for Couture starts October 10th!  Designers were asked to create a couture item for auction (50% of this auction final price will go to the charity), and a pret-a-porter (ready to wear) variation (not limited edition).   The designs are captivating!  The first design that caught my eye was created by SarahTheRed Aurbierre of Vanitas Vesture.  She’s a talented designer, who was also recently seen at the Wear Grey event.  Her couture item is definitely a hot ticket.  Her designs were inspired by tale of The Walrus and the Carpenter, which next to the Jabberwocky is my most favorite of Carroll’s writings.   Her couture gown is stunning!  A longer gown then her ready to wear version, its skirt is comprised of oysters.

The ready to wear is a knee length dress, with sexy cowl neckline, and backless.  Available in many colors, it was quite hard to choose which I wanted, and I may go back for the rest.  I loved each and every variation.  Shown here I have the Camel which I thought was amazingly chic, all in beige, that graduated to taupe at the skirt.  Featuring an oyster hat perched on my Camelia hair from Dernier Cri, accessorized with jewelry from Zaara, and this lovely skin from eStyle Exquisite, that I can’t wait to get a chance to do a skin blog post on.  My cute G Field Square-toe Shoes complete the look.

The Classic was fun little dress for a warm autumn day.  Starting with the cowl neck in squash that graduates to beige, then to a deep crimson at the skirt.   I played around with it and mixed  the cowl neck top with an apple green high waist skirt from Ingenue shown on the right. Complete with a makeup change but also from eStyle Exquisite, Nantucket Spectators shoes from Surf Couture in a complementary Pumpkin, as is the jewelry from fri.day. I completed the look with this cute hair from Frou-Frou, a nice formal updo that includes 3 styles of hair attachments all themed for fall.  They are a shiny metallic, one created from various hair textures in a variety of shades, and natural textures forming pumpkin, acorn and leaves, in a crown.

Mina @ Hair Fair 2010

Mina is a store that’s new to me this year, and it’s been fun to get to know them through their offerings this year.   My favorite at the fair is Stacey, which is a very relaxed updo, with attachable ponytail.  It comes with 2 variations of the updo portion, with, and without daisies.  The ponytail itself is also adorned with daisies.  Bonus it’s a charity hair, as well as the Thulani.  Thulani is a versatile unisex hair, as well as the Debbie, which is shown here in Cranberry.   Carice is a soft, mid-length hair, with a bit of a wave to it, very subtle, very nice. Hair Fair 2010 is ongoing through September 19th.  To see what stores or get slurls to it , click here.  For maps of all stores locations on each sim click here.  Check out the inworld demo group to pick up demos!  Know before you go!  This year Hair Fair charity hair styles, and bandana donations go to help pay for custom-made Wigs for Kids.  To get some tips on managing your settings for attendance at Second Life events like Hair Fair click here.

Paper Couture & Mina

Paper Couture & Mina

A while back someone posted a plurk highlight photos of a country wedding they had found on flickr.  We wondered over the splendid photography, and I was determined I would try to emulate some of the principles at play in them.  When I saw Paper Couture’s Crossroads dress, I was sure this was just the dress to attempt for this, partnered with this Stacey hair.  However I envisioned something a little more than what I settled for, as I really just don’t have the time to play around doing a full attempt at shadows in Kirsten.  So here it is, minus the shadows, extra props, lighting, etc, all that can happen another day.   The crossroads dress is a lovely mermaid style dress, with details over the bodice, very simple, very elegant.  It also comes with a grey shrug not shown here.  I have played it simple with the jewelry throwing on a turquoise and silver necklace from Zaara, and a pair of western boots (not viewable) from Adam n Eve, complete with Surf Couture, sheaf of wheat for my mouth.

Hair:  Mina Hair Fashion – Stacey – Dark Chocolate (With flowers) & Pony

Clawtooth @ Hair Fair 2010

Clawtooth @ Hair Fair 2010

Bubbles Clawtooth, of the Tableau Clawtooths aka Clawtooth by Clawtooth, has made yummy hairs this year, many of them with a vintage origin.  The French Connection is tres chic, and very nautical at the same time oh la ahoy, viva la resistance!  The beret is texture change which gives you tons of options, and really hugs your head well accenting your bangs/fringe.  Other designs from Clawtooth this year are RockinRolls, a fun victory roll hair, follow up another victory roll hair he did awhile back.  I love it. My Shilova is a chic short hair that I think can go from casual to evening wear. It’s very 1930′s, yet very contemporary.  You’re A Star, is exactly old Hollywood glamour, it begs for a satin gown, and a tiered fur stole with tails.  Turnip Sorbet is Clawtooth’s charity hair, its very waif like, adorable, and versatile.

Mystic Bubbles French Connection

Mystic Bubbles French Connection

I loved the possibilities insinuated by this hair so I paired it with a navy peacoat from en Svale, and headed over to Mystic to take shadow photos.  They were quite fail for me, but luckily Sasy is better then me at it, and took these for me.   I’m also wearing a blue strip turtleneck from Coco, I love the effect of the sculpted bottom portion, specially with this shorter peacoat.  I have absolutely no idea whose shorts I am wearing, and my apologies to the creator.  I am usually able to recall such things easily, and didnt make notes at the time this photo was taken, 1 free item from my store to the first person who accurately names it, and it appears in my inventory.  I am afraid it’s the same with the makeup version of this Chaisuki skin, you will have to try on demos to find it,  it’s most likely in the Vienna line, peach tone, as I have been wearing those alot lately.
